A block of mass 5 kg is placed on a rough horizontal surface. The coefficient of static friction between the block and the surface is 0.4. What is the minimum force required to move the block? (Take g = 10 m/s²)
Laws of Motion · 10 Questions · 18 min 42 sec
A block of mass 10 kg is resting on a horizontal surface. A horizontal force of 40 N is applied to it. If the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.3, what is the acceleration of the block? (g = 10 m/s²)
Using Newton's second law:
Net Force = Applied Force − Friction
Friction = μₖ × mg = 0.3 × 10 × 10 = 30 N
Net Force = 40 − 30 = 10 N
Acceleration = F/m = 10/10 = 1 m/s²
